Dion Street Home
This home was acquired after another was destroyed in a fire in September 2012 due to arson. The 9 orphaned or abused children moved in on 2nd April 2013. These are children who are a bit more challenging and are either HIV positive or mentally disabled.
Since we are a charity, the cheapest house on the block with the most potential made the most sense. This left us with a renovation job like nothing else. A lot has been fixed already like replacing a roof, broken window panes and non-functioning geyser, installing doors and new floors, erecting a higher perimeter wall for security reasons, rebuilding of walls and lots of plastering and painting.
Still to be done are fixing, installing and painting of ceilings, renovating the kitchen and one bathroom, curtain rails, replacing facias, skirtings and water pipes, installing a gas hob and electric oven, water pipes, and additional security for the children.
